Fides Krucker
Vocal Director, Dramaturge
Fides Krucker has been an innovative interpreter of vocal music in Canada and abroad for thirty years. She teaches internationally, in Humber College’s theatre program, and privately in Toronto. In 2012 Fides’ company, Good Hair Day Productions, commissioned Louis Dufort and Tom Walmsley’s sexual-catastrophe, electroacoustic opera Julie Sits Waiting; it was nominated for five Dora Awards. Her all-female collective URGE, broke ground for subsequent generations of interdisciplinary artists from 1991 – 2004; their final work is being published by Playwrights Canada Press. With Kazumi Tsuruoka she created a show about disability and love, now the NFB film How does it feel (L.Jackman.) Her vocal creation for the technopera 3 Singers (Mott/Ingebritsen), praised for its feminist jolt and heartbreaking beauty, premiered in Krakow and Chicago this winter. In May 2015, as a mermaid, she launched Nik Beeson’s CD Dive, and then premiered the staged show (writer Richard Sanger) to rave reviews. She has previously collaborated with Peggy Baker to reconstruct and coach Ahmed Hassan’s vocal score for Geometry of the Circle,created the vocal soundscape for land | body | breath, which premiered in the Thomson Collection of Canadian Paintings and First Nations Objects at the AGO in May 2014, and was the vocalographer for locus plot in 2015.
