We are so sad to announce that the planned performances of her body as words at the Theatre Centre from March 19 - 29 will not be going forward. We’re listening to our team members, Toronto Public Health, and the fantastic folks at the Theatre Centre – and keeping everyone safe is our highest priority.
If you’ve purchased tickets, the box office will be in touch. Please consider donating the value of your ticket – you’ll receive a charitable tax receipt, and our deep appreciation! We're sending big love to our team of artists who have worked so hard to get the show ready for opening night on Friday – we WILL make this show happen, sometime, somehow!
her body as words
The incomparable Peggy Baker’s latest creation, her body as words, is an exploration and explosion of female motive, mystique, and physicality, arising as a response to a radical new translation of Simone de Beauvoir’s landmark work, The Second Sex.
Outstanding dancers Sze-Yang Ade-Lam, Nicole Rose Bond, Aria Evans, Kate Holden, Margarita Soria, and 9-year old Angelika Simpson bring the strange, unsettling and dangerous world of her body as words to life, with a commissioned score from innovators Anne Bourne (cello and voice), Fides Krucker (voice) and Ganavya (voice).
“Her choreographic adventures have been risk-taking, imaginative and intellectually rigorous… She is an exemplar of artistic integrity and the pursuit of truth through art.”
