Sylvain Lafortune
Faculty, Dance Educators' Seminar & August Intensive 2019
Since 1979, Sylvain Lafortune has performed all over the world with companies such as Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Lar Lubovitch Dance Co., O’Vertigo Danse, Montréal Danse and Création Estelle Clareton. Presently a freelancer, he appears in projects of Montréal Danse (Prismes, Instant Community, BESIDE) and PPS Danse (Les Chaises). He is a regular teacher for professional programs in dance and circus (École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, École de danse de Québec, School of Dance, École nationale de cirque). He also has directed many circus shows, notably for Circus Monti (Switzerland). His current projects include co-creating L’un l’autre, a duet he will perform with Esther Rousseau-Morin; directing Horizon vertical, a contemporary stilt walkers show with Circus Stella (NB); and publishing L’art et la technique du travail de partenaire, a unique and comprehensive textbook on dance partnering. His Doctoral research (UQÀM), his extensive teaching experience, his writing and his lectures makes him an authority on the subject. This is Sylvain's first time as guest faculty with both the Dance Educators' Seminar and August Intensive 2018.
